About The International Debate Championship
The International Debate Championship is a contest hosted by the International Education Institute, in which students from Van Lang University, Vietnam and from universities worldwide gather to compete in designated topics.

The International Debate Championship is a contest hosted by the International Education Institute, in which students from Van Lang University, Vietnam and from universities worldwide gather to compete in designated topics. The Championship will serve as a forum for students to improve their command of English and interact with peers around the world. What is more, it provides them with training workshops by domestic and foreign experts on various skills; thus, fully enhance their international experience.
This year, the International Education Institute is honored to jointly organize the Championship with Edge Hill University, University of Kuala Lumpur, and UOW Malaysia KDU, as well as wonderful sponsorship from British Council Vietnam and University of Newcastle.
The topic for 2021 is “How to free yourself from negativity”, as mental health is gaining deserving attention for its considerable importance in the modern society. It is essential that everyone, especially the youth, develop a suitable strategy to face prevalent societal problems such as fake news, (cyber-) bullying, body shaming, etc. – that pose challenges to their sense of sanity with positive attitudes.
With mental wellness as the main theme, the Championship will take place on online platforms from October 11 to December 8, and consist of 3 rounds as follows:
- Round 1: “What makes you happy?”
- Round 2: “How to free yourself from negativity”
- Final Round: Random topics for virtual debate
